About Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Nasal surgery can change the shape of the nose by correcting a hump, straightening or narrowing the nose, changing the angle between the nose and mouth, and altering the nasal tip. Cosmetic surgery of the nose is a commonly performed procedure for the Asian population in and around Lake Oswego and Portland, OR. While each person’s reasons for having surgery are unique, our team, led by double board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Mark A. Petroff, recognizes that cultural dissatisfaction is almost never a factor. Rather, the overall goal at Petroff Center Plastic Surgery and Medi-Spa is to help the patient look and feel his or her best by changing the nasal shape to achieve a more attractive or younger look, balance the facial features, and boost self-confidence.

Ideal Candidates

The best candidates for an Asian rhinoplasty:

  • Are of Asian heritage
  • Have cosmetic nose issues they want repaired
  • Want to maintain their ethnic identity
  • Have realistic outcomes
  • Desire a long-term solution
  • Desire a natural look

What to Expect

Since ethnic rhinoplasty involves special consideration along with performing an already complex surgery (rhinoplasty), extra care is taken to provide the desired aesthetic outcomes with natural, realistic results. The nasal structures vary per person, so specialized techniques will be used for different goals. However, the overall procedure will be similar to a traditional rhinoplasty in that our surgeons will carefully reshape the cartilage, skin, and tissues surrounding the nose.

Anticipated Results

As with any rhinoplasty surgery, there is an extensive recovery process. The patient can expect pain, discomfort, swelling, and bruising after surgery. Medication can be used to alleviate pain. There will be multiple follow-up visits to ensure the patient is healing properly and to ensure there are no complications. For several months following surgery, the patient will notice changes in the nose. Full results can take up to a year to be achieved. Since every case is different, especially when it comes to different ethnic backgrounds, results will vary widely from patient to patient.
