About Ethnic Rhinoplasty
Nasal surgery can change the shape of the nose by correcting a hump, straightening or narrowing the nose, changing the angle between the nose and mouth, and altering the nasal tip. Cosmetic surgery of the nose is a commonly performed procedure for the Asian population in and around Lake Oswego and Portland, OR. While each person’s reasons for having surgery are unique, our double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Petroff, recognizes that cultural dissatisfaction is almost never a factor. Rather, the overall goal at Petroff Center Plastic Surgery and Medi-Spa is to help the patient look and feel his or her best by changing the nasal shape to achieve a more attractive or younger look, balance the facial features, and boost self-confidence.
The best candidates for an Asian rhinoplasty:
- Are of Asian heritage
- Have cosmetic nose issues they want repaired
- Want to maintain their ethnic identity
- Have realistic outcomes
- Desire a long-term solution
- Desire a natural look

"Dr. Petroff is an extremely good facial plastic surgeon. He performed a revision rhinoplasty and the experience I had here was incredible. The staff makes you feel comfortable and important. Dr. Petroff performed this surgery under local anesthesia (my first rhinoplasty used general anesthesia) and the recovery period was way quicker and easier to manage. He did a great job and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to get a rhinoplasty done."- J.B. / Google / Jul 13, 2016
"I had a rhinoplasty done in Feb 2013 at the Petroff center. Dr. Petroff is a fantastic cosmetic surgeon. I could not believe the results. He did exactly what I wanted and I'd go back again when the need arises. His staff are all courteous and extremely helpful. And the facilities are spotless. Surgery is never... fun, but the Petroff center went out of their way to make it as painless as possible. Thank you Dr. Petroff and staff for a job, very, well done :o)"- V.M. / Google / Jul 13, 2015
"I cannot say enough about the Petroff center and their entire staff! After a botched rhinoplasty, Petroff was able to transform my nose into a slim, sloped beautiful piece of art! Their entire staff works so well together and helped me feel comfortable and at home throughout the entire process. I can't imagine a better result, or having a better group of people to work with. Thank you Dr. Petroff and team! (Special shout out to the surgical coordinator Bri, nurses Heidi and Kelsey, anesthesiologist Geannie and of course Dr Petroff!)"- F.H. / Yelp / Oct 25, 2016

What to Expect
Since ethnic rhinoplasty involves special consideration along with performing an already complex surgery (rhinoplasty), extra care is taken to provide the desired aesthetic outcomes with natural, realistic results. The nasal structures vary per person, so specialized techniques will be used for different goals. However, the overall procedure will be similar to a traditional rhinoplasty in that Dr. Petroff will carefully reshape the cartilage, skin, and tissues surrounding the nose.
As with any rhinoplasty surgery, there is an extensive recovery process. The patient can expect pain, discomfort, swelling, and bruising after surgery. Medication can be used to alleviate pain. There will be multiple follow-up visits to ensure the patient is healing properly and to ensure there are no complications. For several months following surgery, the patient will notice changes in the nose. Full results can take up to a year to be achieved. Since every case is different, especially when it comes to different ethnic backgrounds, results will vary widely from patient to patient.
