About Lip Augmentation
Full, shapely lips can greatly enhance the appearance of a patient who is suffering from thinning lips due to age or patients who have naturally smaller lips than they desire. We offer synthetic lip injectable dermal fillers to address thin lips. Dr. Mark A. Petroff and Dr. Brian Scott meet with each of their Lake Oswego, OR patients to discuss the ideal option for them to discover their personal needs and goals. Lip injections can yield cosmetically pleasing results that present the patient with more volume and better shape in their lips. Ideal Candidates
The ideal candidates for upper and/or lower lip augmentation surgery are men and women who:
- Have thin lips
- Have tried injectable fillers and desire a longer-lasting enhancement
- Are allergic to the solutions in the injectable fillers
- Have overall good health
What to Expect
Depending on the augmentation option the patient chooses, surgery may or may not be needed but all options can be performed as an outpatient procedure. With the insertion of implants, incisions at the outer corners of the mouth are required for implantation. The incision opening will be closed after with dissolvable sutures. Injections of medical-grade dermal fillers do not need incisions and will be implemented with a syringe. It may take several injections to get the desired fullness. Patients can expect the lips to be tender and sore for several days after the surgery. Scarring is very minimal with a lip augmentation surgery because the incision is placed on the outside of the mouth in the natural crease of the lips. Once healed, the incision is barely noticeable at all. Aftercare instructions will be given to properly care for the lips.

It's been 2+ weeks since my Blepharoplasty, I am so thrilled that I had this procedure done with Dr. Mark Petroff. When I left the OR, Deanna (Dr. Petroff's OR RN) got me a cup of good hot coffee and some vaseline for my lips. I even went home with a dozen yellow roses and the monogrammed coffee cup! A month before the procedure, I had a printed spiral notebook of all my upcoming appointments and what to expect before, during and after the procedure. I also received Vitamins and a regimen to follow before and after. Since this was my very first cosmetic procedure, it was incredibly helpful information and very thorough. I also want to mention Carly, Dr. Petroff's MA, as she is just as professional at her job as the rest. If you are reading this and contemplating where to have any cosmetic improvements, I can first-hand strongly recommend the Petroff Center. I understand that Dr. Petroff's wife, Karen, is a big part of their growing and very successful business and I'm just very grateful and thankful to everyone there who looked after me including the gals at the reception desk. At Petroff Center, patient care is individualized to provide a safe and effective treatment option, and our surgeons personally administer all of our lip injections. With their intimate understanding of facial anatomy, patients can expect a pleasing result that is not overdone. Currently, Dr. Petroff and Dr. Scott prefer to use Juvéderm® for lip augmentation. It is a smooth gel that glides into the skin and plumps the lip for a fuller look. It is made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body that works with collagen and elastin to give volume and support to the skin. Since it is not animal based and highly biocompatible, no pre-treatment testing is needed.
Anticipated Results
Lip implants are made with flexible, synthetic materials that are made to look and feel natural under the skin. With time, the lips will not look swollen and the implant will integrate with the natural tissues and fibers of the lip. Dermal filler injections will slowly absorb back into the body and the lips will naturally become smaller. Repeated treatments will be needed to maintain results.
