What is Asian Eyelid Surgery?
Cosmetic eyelid surgery is the most common elected procedure among people of Asian ethnicity in the United States and in Asia. Eyelid surgery performed by our board-certified facial plastic surgeons, Dr. Mark A. Petroff can thin a full eyelid, alter the shape or height of the upper or lower eyelids, decrease a pronounced epicanthal fold (the flap of tissue on the nasal side of the eyelid), or create a natural-looking crease. At Petroff Center Plastic Surgery / Premier Laser + Skin, we understand our patient's desires to naturally enhance their eyes without disregarding their ethnicity or heritage. Dr. Petroff will meet with each patient to discuss their goals and desired outcome for the surgery in order to produce the most subtle, ideal results. We invite everyone to contact our Lake Oswego, OR practice to learn more.
What Are the Benefits of Asian Eyelid Surgery?
Asian eyelid surgery, also known as double eyelid surgery or Asian blepharoplasty, offers several cosmetic and functional benefits for individuals looking to enhance their natural eye shape. This procedure can create a defined upper eyelid crease, resulting in a more open and youthful appearance while maintaining ethnic identity and features. It also helps improve symmetry between both eyes, reduces puffiness, and enhances the appearance of the eyelashes. Functionally, Asian eyelid surgery in Lake Oswego, OR can make it easier to apply makeup and may improve peripheral vision if drooping eyelid skin is causing an obstruction. Ultimately, the procedure is tailored to complement each patient’s unique facial structure and aesthetic goals.
Am I a Candidate for Asian Eyelid Surgery?
The best candidates for receiving an Asian eyelid surgery in Lake Oswego, OR:
- Are of Asian descent
- Have a desire to improve and enhance the shape and appearance of their eyes
- Desire natural results that still maintain their heritage
- Desire a long-term solution
How Is Asian Eyelid Surgery Performed?
The procedure itself varies depending on the techniques used, as well as the patient’s goals and eyelid anatomy. An incisional approach is usually taken for double eyelid surgery, in which the skin and sometimes muscle are trimmed and some fat may be removed. In some cases, particularly for lower eyelid surgery, a transconjunctival (minimally invasive) approach is possible. Dr. Petroff will discuss with each patient before their procedure to thoroughly understand their goals and unique eye structure.
Petroff Center Plastic Surgery and Medi-Spa Reviews
Dr Petroff is an extremely professional and highly skilled plastic surgeon. I took two years to do research before choosing him to perform a face and neck lift, along with brow lift and upper/lower blepharoplasty. His work is stellar, and I am very pleased with the outcome. His entire staff is top notch. They were warm, patient, and compassionate toward me as I went through my healing process. It's been almost two years, and I am continually impressed by the natural results. I look even better than I did ten years ago!Thank you Dr Petroff and all the staff at Petroff Center.
It has been such a wonderful experience working with Dr. Petroff and his staff. I had surgery in August 2024 and I could not have asked for a better team to take care of me, from the office staff, to the anesthesiologist and nurses, to Dr. Petroff's extreme skill in surgery and creating a natural outcome, not to mention the roses they sent home with me after surgery ( what a nice, thoughtful touch ) I could not be more happy with my results, and I would highly recommend the Petroff Center, if you are thinking of any facial surgery. They are the best, and I did my research :)
Dr. Mark Petroff has given me excellent results after 16 years of surgery. He produces a natural look that lasts and I've been delighted with his skill and terrific staff.
I received HALO on my face and neck about a week ago with Kelsey. She and the entire staff were warm and professional. I’m looking forward to the final results and enjoying a refreshed look.
I have been a client / patient here for a few years. First for non-invasive procedures, then for a lower face lift, neck lift & lip lift.. I researched several surgeons, several times until I finally decided on Dr Petroff. He helped me assess what I wanted & guided me on what to expect. On the day of my surgery, Dr Petroff & his surgical staff ensured I was comfortable & helped calm my pre-op anxiety. I'm 6 months postop & very happy with the results.

What Can I Expect During Asian Eyelid Surgery Recovery?
Minimal side effects such as itching, drying, bruising, swelling, and a sense of tightness in the eyelids are commonly observed following eyelid surgery. These symptoms are pretty normal and should subside within 1 - 2 weeks. Most patients resume routine activities in a matter of 5 - 7 days when non-absorbable stitches are removed, and they can return to work in about 10 days after a blepharoplasty. Contact lenses should not be worn for 2 weeks. Eyes can be sensitive to light and wind and may be slightly irritated for a short while. Your surgeon will prescribe eye drops and cool compresses to ease any discomfort. After 1 - 2 months, patients should see their true results: a more refreshed and cheerful look around the eyes and improved self-confidence, with little to no visible scars.
