Eyelid Surgery in Lake Oswego, OR

What is Eyelid Surgery?

The eyes are the first thing that people notice right away. Aging can take away that youthful look as the eyelids start to sag and wrinkle. The lax and puffy skin can make patients appear weary and far older than their actual age. Too much sun exposure and heredity also contribute to and predispose individuals to sagging eyelids. All of these issues can be successfully remedied by a blepharoplasty, an eyelid surgery performed by board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Mark A. Petroff in Lake Oswego, OR. A surgical eyelid lift involves removing excess skin, fat, and tissues around the upper and lower eyelids that create puffiness or drooping around the eyes. The result is a younger, rejuvenated appearance. Patients can schedule a consultation with Dr. Petroff at Petroff Center Plastic Surgery / Premier Laser + Skin to learn more about this procedure.

How does Eyelid Surgery work?

Blepharoplasty at Petroff Center Plastic Surgery / Premier Laser + Skin is a delicate, highly customizable procedure, particularly on the lower eyelids so the skill and experience of the surgeon is crucial to achieving excellent results. Our team specializes in facial plastic surgery, most specifically blepharoplasty, and has been in practice for over 25 years. Our surgeons are able to successfully perform the following:

Upper Eyelid Surgery:

For upper eyelid surgery, our plastic surgeon will make the incision within the natural fold of the eyelid. The incision will be extended outward as much as possible in order to address the extraneous skin folds located on the outside of the upper lid. After the incision is carefully made, the surgeon will remove the excess fat and skin. Afterward, the incision will be closed with absorbable sutures which do not require removal by the surgeon.

Lower Eyelid Surgery:

For lower eyelid surgery, the incision will be placed along the bottom of the lash line to allow our plastic surgeon access to remove the extraneous fat and tissue. A special technique is used for patients with puffy lower lids but good skin tone called transconjunctival blepharoplasty. Patients with dark undereye circles caused by a lack of fat in the area could benefit from injectables or fat fillers to add volume to the area.

Upper and lower blepharoplasty can also be done together or with other cosmetic procedures such as a facelift, forehead lift, neck lift, laser skin resurfacing, or mid-face lift.

I had a Blepharoplasty procedure performed by Dr. Mark Petroff at The Petroff Center about 3 weeks ago. I was very pleased with the entire experience including consultation, surgery and follow up. The staff and Dr. Petroff were courteous, professional and knowledgeable and the facilities were beautiful and very clean. My surgery went very well with minor discomfort and no pain. I continue to heal and I am told that total recovery takes about 3 months. I have small bumps along the incision scars on both eyes which should heal as recovery progresses. I would recommend The Petroff Center to family and friends.

It's been 2+ weeks since my Blepharoplasty, I am so thrilled that I had this procedure done with Dr. Mark Petroff. I live in FL and Nantucket, did my research and when I toured the Petroff Center, I booked my appointment immediately! From my initial contact with Brianne, to my final ultrasound procedure with Whitney, I cannot give enough kudos to the team there. Everyone is so professional, the center is very modern, contemporary and extremely neat and clean. Dr. Petroff's nurse Christy, called me two weeks prior to the procedure to go over all pre-op/post-op and answer all of my questions. Tiffany, the Nurse Anesthetist, called me the night before my procedure (after putting down her kids!) as well as the night of my procedure to see how I was doing. Unbelievable? When I left the OR, Deanna (Dr. Petroff's OR RN) got me a cup of good hot coffee and some vaseline for my lips. I even went home with a dozen yellow roses and the monogrammed coffee cup! A month before the procedure, I had a printed spiral notebook of all my upcoming appointments and what to expect before, during and after the procedure. I also received Vitamins and a regimen to follow before and after. Since this was my very first cosmetic procedure, it was incredibly helpful information and very thorough. I also want to mention Carly, Dr. Petroff's MA, as she is just as professional at her job as the rest. If you are reading this and contemplating where to have any cosmetic improvements, I can first-hand strongly recommend the Petroff Center. I understand that Dr. Petroff's wife, Karen, is a big part of their growing and very successful business and I'm just very grateful and thankful to everyone there who looked after me including the gals at the reception desk. Thank you!!!

What can I Expect After Blepharoplasty?

After surgery, patients can expect the eyelids to be bruised and swollen, which can be alleviated with ice packs, medicated eye ointments or eye drops, and elevating the head. These symptoms should last a few days. Eyelid recovery is usually easy for most patients, and normal activities can be resumed within a week. In about 1 - 2 months, patients should expect natural-looking, younger, more refreshed eyes after their surgery. In addition, scars shouldn’t be visible due to their placement.
