About Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a skin-resurfacing technique that removes the uppermost layers of skin by gentle exfoliation with natural diamond chips. It also vacuums away the dead skin cells in a sterile and controlled manner. Our patients at Petroff Center Plastic Surgery and Medi-Spa experience softer, smoother, and cleaner skin after the first treatment and may resume normal activities directly afterward. Unlike other exfoliation treatments, the DiamondTome™ skin-resurfacing system employed by our team does not use loose abrasives that contaminates the skin or the environment. We encourage interested candidates to learn more about microdermabrasion by contacting our Lake Oswego, OR practice.

What to Expect
The patient’s face will be thoroughly cleaned prior to the procedure. A stream of fine particles will be sprayed onto the patient’s face to essentially polish the skin through a special handpiece. In the process, dead skin cells and other debris will be suctioned away by the microderm system. Microdermabrasion also stimulates the skin’s production of collagen and elastin, which play a role in skin firmness. Treatment can take 30 – 60 minutes to complete.
Anticipated Results
There’s no downtime with microdermabrasion, but the skin will look pink and also feel dry and tight for about a day after treatment. Moisturizer should be applied to alleviate these side effects. The immediate results after microdermabrasion include smoother, brighter, and more even-toned skin. For full results, 5 – 12 treatments are recommended every 2 – 3 weeks.
