Microdermabrasion is a skin-resurfacing technique that removes the uppermost layers of skin by gentle exfoliation with natural diamond chips. It also vacuums away the dead skin cells in a sterile and controlled manner. Our patients at Petroff Center Plastic Surgery and Medi-Spa experience softer, smoother, and cleaner skin after the first treatment and may resume normal activities directly afterward. Unlike other exfoliation treatments, the DiamondTome™ skin-resurfacing system employed by our team does not use loose abrasives that contaminates the skin or the environment. We encourage interested candidates to learn more about microdermabrasion by contacting our Lake Oswego, OR practice.
The best candidates for microdermabrasion:
- Have any skin type and color
- Have skin concerns, such as fine lines and wrinkles, aged skin, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, minor scars, and uneven skin tone and texture
- Desire better-looking, more radiant skin
- Do not want an invasive surgical procedure
- Have realistic outcomes
"I was introduced to Petroff Center a few years ago from a deal site and had a series of microdermabrasions and facials done in the spa section and was very pleased with the staff, the aesthetician and the results from my procedures. I have gone in a few times since then to buy product and again everyone was so nice and professional. When I decided to get a consultation about other procedures, possibly even surgical procedures, my first thought was Petroff Center. I went in and was treated great by the front office staff and was promptly taken back to meet Dr. Petroff for my consultation. He advised me and gave me a few options based on my facial concerns and then had me meet with the financial person to go over the costs of the procedures. I was never pressured by him or by anyone else on the staff to start anything at that time. Everyone was helpful and gave me great suggestions about what might be most cost effective and also give me the best results for what I was looking for. I would strongly recommend the Petroff Center and will be going back once I have made a decision on my next steps."- K.N. / Yelp / Aug 17, 2016
"It is always a pleasurable experience at the Petroff Center. The staff are courteous, knowledgeable and thorough. Dr. Mark Petroff himself provides the services, NOT an assistant, for the treatments and his experienced staff provide the skin care services. He is patient, professional, yet friendly. I wouldn't go anywhere else."- C.M. / Google / Jul 13, 2015
"Here's where I go (instead of spas) for my microdermabrasion because this procedure should be done by trained professional and with the right equipment. Petroff Center has both."- D.T. / Solutionreach / Apr 25, 2015
"Melisa is a very professional aesthetician and has a beautiful touch. I just received one of the best, if not the best, microdermabrasion treatments this week. It will seriously make you glow."- N.C. / Demandforce / Sep 14, 2014

What to Expect
The patient’s face will be thoroughly cleaned prior to the procedure. A stream of fine particles will be sprayed onto the patient’s face to essentially polish the skin through a special handpiece. In the process, dead skin cells and other debris will be suctioned away by the microderm system. Microdermabrasion also stimulates the skin’s production of collagen and elastin, which play a role in skin firmness. Treatment can take 30 – 60 minutes to complete.
There’s no downtime with microdermabrasion, but the skin will look pink and also feel dry and tight for about a day after treatment. Moisturizer should be applied to alleviate these side effects. The immediate results after microdermabrasion include smoother, brighter, and more even-toned skin. For full results, 5 – 12 treatments are recommended every 2 – 3 weeks.
